Even Remembering Union - Transformation
आनन्दे महति प्राप्ते दृष्टे वा बान्धवे चिरात् । आनन्दमुद्गतं ध्यायेत्तल्लयस्तन्मना भवेत् ॥
aanande mahati praapte drishte va baandhave chiraat | aanandamudgatam dhyaayettallayastanmanaa bhavet ||
VBT Verse 73
The Sutra
"Even remembering union, without the embrace, transformation."
Paul Reps translation, Zen Flesh, Zen Bones (1957)
Understanding
You do not need the physical act. Even the MEMORY of deep union carries transformative power. By remembering the peak of love, the peak of joy, the peak of union - with total absorption - the same energy is invoked. Memory becomes meditation. The past becomes present. This reveals that the bliss was never in the other person; it was always in your own consciousness.
Original Sanskrit

aanande mahati praapte drishte va baandhave chiraat | aanandamudgatam dhyaayettallayastanmanaa bhavet ||
Vijnanabhairava Verse 73 (Technique 50 of 112)
How to Practice
Sit quietly with eyes closed. Recall a moment of deep union, joy, or love.
Do not just think about it - FEEL it. Let the memory become as vivid as the actual experience.
Feel the energy, the warmth, the expansion that was present in that moment.
Let this remembered bliss fill your entire body and awareness.
Notice: the other person is not here, yet the bliss is present. Where is it coming from?
The bliss is yours. It was always yours. The other was just a mirror reflecting your own nature.
