VBT Verse 74
The Sutra
"On joyously seeing a long absent friend, permeate this joy."
Paul Reps translation, Zen Flesh, Zen Bones (1957)
Understanding
When you see someone you love after a long absence, a spontaneous wave of joy rises. Most people let this joy pass quickly as conversation begins. This technique says: permeate this joy. Let it soak through your entire being. Do not move on to words and catching up. STAY in the joy. Fill yourself with it completely. This is using natural life moments as meditation.
Original Sanskrit

Vijnanabhairava Verse 74 (Technique 51 of 112)
How to Practice
This technique is practiced in the moment of reunion with someone you love.
When you first see them, before words, before the mind starts planning what to say - feel the JOY.
Let this joy spread through your entire body. Do not rush past it.
Permeate means: let it soak into every cell, every corner of your being.
The joy is not because of the person. The person is the trigger, but the joy is yours.
Practice this with every joyful moment - a surprise, good news, a beautiful sunrise.
Duration
Spontaneous moments
Best Time
Whenever joy arises naturally
