The Sutra
"In summer when you see the entire sky endlessly clear, enter such clarity."
Paul Reps translation, Zen Flesh, Zen Bones (1957)
Understanding
On a clear summer day, the sky is endlessly, perfectly blue - without a single cloud, without boundary, without interruption. This technique uses that natural clarity. Look at the clear sky and ENTER it. Let your consciousness become as clear, as boundless, as uninterrupted as that summer sky. The external sky mirrors your inner nature - vast, clear, limitless.

How to Practice
Wait for or find a perfectly clear day - not a single cloud in the sky.
Lie down or sit comfortably and look upward at the vast blue expanse.
Let your eyes relax. Do not focus on any point. Take in the entire sky at once.
Feel the quality of that clarity - boundless, uninterrupted, utterly pure.
Now let your mind become like the sky. Let thoughts be absent like clouds are absent.
Enter the clarity itself. Your consciousness and the clear sky become one - vast, empty, luminous.
