The Sutra
"Feel the cosmos as a translucent ever-living presence."
Paul Reps translation, Zen Flesh, Zen Bones (1957)
Understanding
The world appears solid and dead - concrete buildings, hard ground, mechanical processes. This technique reverses that perception. Feel everything as translucent - not opaque, but light-filled. And not dead, but ever-living. Every atom is alive, every space is conscious, the entire cosmos is a living, breathing, translucent presence. This is not imagination but a shift in the mode of perception.

Vijnanabhairava Verse 94 (Technique 71 of 112)
How to Practice
Sit where you can see a wide view - a window, a garden, an open room.
Look at the solid objects around you and begin to feel them as translucent - as if light passes through everything.
Walls, furniture, your own body - imagine them becoming semi-transparent, made of light rather than matter.
Now add the feeling of aliveness. Everything is not just translucent but ALIVE - vibrating with presence.
Extend this to the entire cosmos. The sky, the earth, all of space - one translucent living being.
Rest in this perception. You are inside a living cosmos, and you are part of its translucence.
Duration
20-30 minutes
Best Time
Sunrise or sunset when light is naturally translucent
