VBT Verse 56
The Sutra
"Simply by looking into the blue sky beyond clouds, the serenity."
Paul Reps translation, Zen Flesh, Zen Bones (1957)
Understanding
One of the most accessible techniques. Simply look at the blue sky - not at the clouds, not at birds, but at the vast blue beyond. The sky has no boundary, no center, no edge. As your gaze dissolves into this boundlessness, your mind naturally becomes serene. The limitless sky mirrors the limitless nature of your own consciousness.
Original Sanskrit

How to Practice
Go outside or sit near a window where you can see the open sky.
Look beyond the clouds into the deep blue. Let your gaze soften and expand.
Do not focus on anything specific. Let your eyes relax into the vastness.
The sky has no edges. Let your awareness merge with this boundlessness.
As the eyes dissolve into the sky, the mind dissolves into serenity.
Even a few minutes of sky-gazing can reset the nervous system and bring deep calm.

Morning or late afternoon when the sky is clear
