VBT Verse 35
The Sutra
"When on a bed or a seat, let yourself become weightless, beyond mind."
Paul Reps translation, Zen Flesh, Zen Bones (1957)
Understanding
A deceptively simple technique. Sitting or lying on a bed, let yourself become weightless. Release every sense of heaviness in the body. As the body becomes weightless, the mind follows - because the mind is deeply connected to the body's sense of gravity and solidity. When both body and mind become weightless, what remains is pure awareness.

Vijnanabhairava Verse 35 (Technique 12 of 112)
How to Practice
Sit comfortably on a bed, seat, or cushion. Close your eyes.
Feel the weight of your body pressing down - the heaviness in your limbs, your torso, your head.
Now, gradually, imagine this weight dissolving. Start with your hands - let them feel weightless.
Expand this feeling through your arms, torso, legs, head. Each part becomes lighter and lighter.
Let yourself feel as if you are floating - no weight, no solidity, no heaviness anywhere.
As the body becomes weightless, notice that the mind naturally becomes quiet. Thoughts become lighter too.
Rest in this weightless state. You have gone "beyond mind" - into pure, light, unbound awareness.
