VBT Verse 53
The Sutra
"Eyes closed, see your inner being in detail. Thus see your true nature."
Paul Reps translation, Zen Flesh, Zen Bones (1957)
Understanding
Close your eyes and look inward. Not at thoughts, not at darkness, but at your inner being itself. See yourself in detail - not the body, but the awareness that is looking. When you see your inner being clearly, you see your true nature. This is the simplest form of self-observation - turning the gaze from the outer world to the inner world.

Vijnanabhairava Verse 53 (Technique 30 of 112)
How to Practice
Sit quietly and close your eyes. Let the outer world fade.
Now look inward. What do you see? Not with physical eyes, but with awareness.
Observe the inner landscape in detail - the space, the light, the presence that is you.
Do not look at thoughts or images. Look at the one who is looking.
See yourself as you truly are - vast, still, luminous awareness.
This practice reveals your true nature by simply turning attention inward.
