Viśālāṅga means "great-bodied" or "wide-limbed" (viśāla = vast, wide, great. aṅga = body, limb). This form reveals the teaching that Bhairava is not confined to any single location, temple, or form but pervades the entire universe as consciousness itself. His body is the cosmos, his limbs are the directions, his breath is the wind. Viśālāṅga Bhairava dissolves the illusion that the divine is small, distant, or separate from creation. To contemplate this form is to recognize that every atom of existence is the body of Bhairava.
