Swarnākarṣaṇa Bhairava Puja - Intermediate

Expanded puja with full Kara-Nyasa and Anga-Nyasa, Panchopacharaa (five offerings with mantras), 16-name Archana, Stotra recitation, extended japa (2-3 malas), and Kapoor Aarti. Structured following the general Dashaanga (ten-limb) worship framework — this framing is adapted from the Batuk sadhana tradition, as Swarnakarshana Bhairava’s own textual source (Shri Batuka Bhairava Sadhana, book pg 221-223) gives the mantra-vidhana (viniyoga+nyasa+dhyana+mula-mantra) but not a full 10-limb structure. For practitioners comfortable with the beginner level after 20+ days of regular practice.

1

Personal Preparation and Pranayama

⏱️ 5-7 minutes

Bath completed. Sit in Siddhāsana facing North or East. Perform five minutes of Anuloma-Viloma (alternate nostril breathing) to deeply steady the mind. Close the right nostril with the thumb, inhale through left. Close left with ring finger, exhale through right. Repeat.

  • •Take pranayama seriously, it prepares consciousness for deeper practice
  • •Do not rush
  • •Breathe with full awareness
2

Achamana (Purification Sips)

⏱️ 1 minute

ॐ

The book's own tattva-shuddhi achamana (see the beginner level, book pg 47), performed with deeper mindfulness at this level.

Mantra:

Oṁ Aiṁ Ātmatattvaṁ Śodhayāmi Namaḥ Svāhā | Oṁ Hrīṁ Vidyātattvaṁ Śodhayāmi Namaḥ Svāhā | Oṁ Klīṁ Śivatattvaṁ Śodhayāmi Namaḥ Svāhā | Oṁ Aiṁ Hrīṁ Klīṁ Sarvatattvaṁ Śodhayāmi Namaḥ Svāhā |

Meaning: I purify the tattva (principle) of the self. I purify the tattva of knowledge. I purify the tattva of Shiva. I purify all tattvas together — recited while sipping water three times (once per line 1-3) and then washing the hands (line 4), as a threefold inner purification before worship begins.

3

Kara-Nyasa (Hand Placement)

⏱️ 1 minute

Touch six points on the hands while reciting the names of Swarnākarṣaṇa Bhairava. This consecrates the hands that will perform the worship. Use the right hand to touch the left and vice versa for each pair.

Mantra:

Om Svarṇākarṣaṇāya Aṅguṣṭhābhyāṁ Namaḥ | Om Bhairavāya Tarjanībhyāṁ Namaḥ | Om Dhanadāya Madhyamābhyāṁ Namaḥ | Om Aiśvaryapradāya Anāmikābhyāṁ Namaḥ | Om Ṛṇamocanāya Kaniṣṭhikābhyāṁ Namaḥ | Om Sarvabhairavāya Karatalakarapṛṣṭhābhyāṁ Namaḥ

Meaning: Salutations to Swarnākarṣaṇa at the thumbs. To Bhairava at the index fingers. To Dhanadā (wealth-giver) at the middle fingers. To Aiśvaryapradā (prosperity-granter) at the ring fingers. To Ṛṇamocanā (debt-remover) at the little fingers. To All-Bhairava at the front and back of palms.

💡 Tips:

  • •Touch both thumbs together, then both index fingers, etc.
  • •For the last one, clap palms together then touch backs of hands
  • •Feel divine energy entering through each finger
4

Anga-Nyasa (Body Placement)

⏱️ 1 minute

Touch six points on the body while reciting the names with their seed endings. This consecrates the entire body as a sacred vessel. Use the right hand fingertips to touch each point.

Mantra:

Om Svarṇākarṣaṇāya Hṛdayāya Namaḥ | Om Bhairavāya Śirase Svāhā | Om Dhanadāya Śikhāyai Vaṣaṭ | Om Aiśvaryapradāya Kavacāya Hum | Om Ṛṇamocanāya Netratrayāya Vauṣaṭ | Om Sarvabhairavāya Astrāya Phaṭ

Meaning: Swarnākarṣaṇa at the heart (Namah). Bhairava at the head (Svaha). Dhanadā at the crown-tuft (Vashat). Aiśvaryapradā as armor at the chest (Hum). Ṛṇamocanā at the three eyes (Vaushat). All-Bhairava as the weapon (Phat).

💡Note:

This uses the deity's descriptive names rather than the bija-syllable nyasa given in the source text, because traditional bija-mantra nyasa is intended to be received through guru-diksha (initiation) before use. This is a deliberate, honest simplification for public practice, not a claim that this is the book's own nyasa system.

💡 Tips:

  • •Heart, Head, Crown-tuft (top-back of head), Chest (cross arms), Eyes (touch both + third eye point), then clap once for Astra
  • •Uses descriptive names rather than the bija-syllable nyasa given in the source text, since bija-mantra nyasa is traditionally received through guru-diksha before use
  • •Combined with Kara-Nyasa, this creates a complete protective consecration
5

Sankalpa (Extended Intention)

⏱️ 1 minute

With joined palms, state the formal sankalpa with your name, the date, and your specific purpose. At intermediate level, add more detail to your intention.

Mantra:

Om Viṣṇur Viṣṇur Viṣṇuḥ | Mamopātta-samasta-duritakṣayadvrā Śrī Svarṇākarṣaṇa Bhairava prītyarthaṁ yathāśakti Svarṇākarṣaṇabhairava pūjāṁ kariṣye

Meaning: For the destruction of all sins and for the pleasure of Shri Swarnākarṣaṇa Bhairava, I perform this puja to the best of my ability.

💡 Tips:

  • •State your specific intention after the Sanskrit formula
  • •Be detailed about what you seek: protection, spiritual growth, obstacle removal
6

Ānandamānandakaraṁ Prasannaṁ Jñānasvarūpaṁ Nijabodharūpam | Yogīndramĭḍyaṁ Bhavarogavaidyaṁ Śrīmadguruṁ Nityamahaṁ Namāmi ||

Meaning: I bow daily to the true Guru, who gives bliss upon bliss, who is ever serene, whose very form is knowledge and self-realization, who is praised by the lords of yogis, and who is the physician curing the disease of worldly existence.

💡 Tips:

  • •Feel genuine reverence for the Guru Tattva
  • •Bow mentally with full devotion
7

Extended Dhyana (Visualization)

⏱️ 3 minutes

Close your eyes. Visualize Swarnākarṣaṇa Bhairava using the full three-verse dhyana: golden-hued, four-armed, three-eyed, holding an inexhaustible vessel of gold and rubies, seated on a ruby throne under a wish-fulfilling coral tree, embraced by a goddess radiant as a champaka flower, ever pouring gold into the hands of devotees. Hold the visualization with devotion.

Mantra:

Oṁ Pītavarṇaṁ Caturbāhuṁ Trinetraṁ Pītavāsasam | Akṣayaṁ Svarṇamāṇikya-taḏitpūritāpātrakam || Abhilasan Mahāśūlaṁ Cāmaraṁ Tomarodvaham | Satataṁ Cintaye Devaṁ Bhairavaṁ Sarvasiddhidam || Mandāradrumakalpamūlamahite Māṇikya-siṁhāsane | Saṁviṣṫodarabhinnacampakarucā Devyā Samāliṅgitaḥ | Bhaktebhyaḥ Kararatnapātrabharitaṁ Svarṇaṁ Dadāno Bhṛśaṁ, Svarṇākarṣaṇa-bhairavo Vijayate Svarṇākṛtiḥ Sarvadā ||

Meaning: Om, of yellow-golden hue, four-armed, three-eyed, clad in yellow garments, holding an inexhaustible vessel filled with gold, rubies, and lightning-bright gems, wielding a great trident, a chowrie and a spear — I constantly meditate on that god Bhairava, the giver of all accomplishments. Seated on a ruby throne at the foot of the wish-fulfilling Mandara tree, embraced by a goddess of champaka-flower radiance, ever bestowing gold-filled jeweled vessels into the hands of devotees — Swarnakarshana Bhairava, golden in form, forever triumphant.

💡 Tips:

  • •Hold the visualization steadily for the full duration
  • •See the four-armed golden form, the ruby throne, the overflowing vessel of gold
  • •Feel his presence solidify in your heart
  • •If visualization wavers, gaze at the physical image and return to inner vision

Batuk Bhairava Kavach, Borrowed for Protection (1st of 3 Recitations)

⏱️ 2 minutes

First recite the viniyoga once to properly apply the Kavach, then recite the Batuk Bhairava Kavach for the first time. Swarnākarṣaṇa Bhairava sādhanā traditionally borrows Batuk's Kavach for protection, since no separate Swarnākarṣaṇa-specific kavach text exists in available sources. At intermediate level, the Kavach is chanted three times total: once here before archana, once mid-japa, and once before visarjana. The viniyoga only needs to be recited once, at this first recitation.

Mantra:

Asya Śrī Baṭukabhairavakavacarājasya Bhairavaṛṣiḥ Anuṣṭupchandaḥ Śrī Baṭukabhairavo Devatā Mama Baṭukabhairava Prasāda Siddhayarthe Jape Viniyogaḥ |

Meaning: Viniyoga (ritual application) of this great Batuk Bhairava Kavach: Bhairava is the sage, Anushtup is the meter, Shri Batuk Bhairava is the deity. I apply this in recitation for the attainment of Shri Batuk Bhairava's grace.

💡Note:

First of three Kavach recitations. Second comes after the first mala of japa. Third before visarjana.

💡 Tips:

  • •Recite with full focus
  • •Feel the protective shield strengthening
21

16-Name Archana (with Flowers)

⏱️ 3 minutes

Offer a flower with each of the sixteen names of Swarnākarṣaṇa Bhairava. Place one petal per name at the feet of the deity.

Mantra:

Meaning: Sixteen names: Svarṇākarṣaṇa Bhairava, Bhairava, Dhanadā (Wealth-Giver), Aiśvaryapradā (Prosperity-Granter), Ṛṇamocanā (Debt-Releaser), Lakṣmīpradā (Fortune-Bestower), Sampatpradā (Abundance-Giver), Śivapriyā (Beloved of Shiva), Mahākāla, Kṣetrapāla, Daṇḍapāṇi, Trinetra (Three-Eyed), Gadādhara (Mace-Holder), Bhūtanātha (Lord of Beings), Paśupati (Lord of Creatures), Rudra.

💡Note:

Traditionally, namavali recitation is preceded by a viniyoga (statement of intent) and nyasa (body-placement of the names) — see the book's Namavali-Path-Vidhi, pg 64. This simplified version omits the bija-based viniyoga/nyasa (which requires guru-diksha) and goes directly to name recitation, which remains a complete and valid practice on its own.

💡 Tips:

  • •One flower petal per name
  • •Say each name clearly and with devotion
  • •If short on flowers, offer mentally for remaining names
22

Main Mantra Japa (2-3 Malas, 216-324 repetitions)

⏱️ 15-20 minutes

Chant the Swarnākarṣaṇa mantra for 2-3 complete malas. Maintain steady rhythm and let the mind absorb into the mantra. After the first mala (108), pause briefly for the second Kavach recitation, then continue with remaining malas.

Om Śrī Svarṇākarṣaṇa Bhairavāya Namaḥ

Meaning: Salutations to Shri Swarnākarṣaṇa Bhairava

💡 Tips:

  • •After first mala: pause, do second Kavach recitation
  • •Then continue second and third mala
  • •Keep steady rhythm
  • •Feel devotion grow with each repetition
  • •Do not count mechanically, stay present
23

Batuk Bhairava Kavach, Borrowed (2nd Recitation, Mid-Japa)

⏱️ 2 minutes

After the first mala is complete, recite the Batuk Bhairava Kavach once (used here for protection, as explained at the first recitation). This mid-practice recitation maintains the protective shield during extended japa.

💡Note:

Perform this between your first and second mala. Then continue with remaining japa.

24

Swarnākarṣaṇa Bhairava Stotram (Stotra Recitation)

⏱️ 5 minutes

After completing all malas, recite the Swarnākarṣaṇa Bhairava Stotram once (from the Rudrayamala Tantra). Read slowly and meaningfully, contemplating the qualities described in each verse. No separate Ashtakam for this form is confirmed in available sources, so this stotra is used instead.

💡 Tips:

  • •Read slowly with feeling and reflection
  • •Contemplate the meaning of each verse
  • •Can be read in Sanskrit or your language translation
  • •The Stotram invokes Swarnākarṣaṇa Bhairava's protective and blessing qualities
25

Uttara-Aposhanam

⏱️ 30 seconds

Offer water after the offerings are complete.

Mantra:

Om Uttarāpośanaṁ Jalaṁ Samarpayāmi

Meaning: I offer water for rinsing.

26

Kapoor Aarti (Camphor Lamp Offering)

⏱️ 2 minutes

आरती

Light a piece of camphor (kapoor) on a small plate or aarti thali. Wave it before Swarnākarṣaṇa Bhairava in clockwise circles while chanting the aarti mantra. Ring bell with the left hand. The burning camphor represents the dissolution of ego.

Mantra:

Om Karpūragauraṁ Karuṇāvatāraṁ Saṁsārasāraṁ Bhujagendrahāram | Sadā Vasantaṁ Hṛdayāravinde Bhavaṁ Bhavānīsahitaṁ Namāmi ||

Meaning: I bow to the one who is white as camphor, the incarnation of compassion, the essence of worldly existence, who wears the king of serpents as a garland, who always dwells in the lotus of the heart, along with Bhavani (Parvati).

💡 Tips:

  • •Use a small piece of camphor on a metal plate
  • •Wave in smooth clockwise circles
  • •The flame of camphor leaves no residue, symbolizing ego-free devotion
  • •After aarti, pass your hands over the flame and touch your eyes and head
27

Pradakshina (3 Circumambulations)

⏱️ 1 minute

Walk clockwise around the puja space three times, or turn three times on your seat. Recite the pradakshina mantra.

Mantra:

Yāni Kāni Ca Pāpāni Janmāntarakṛtāni Ca | Tāni Tāni Vinaśyanti Pradakṣiṇapade Pade ||

Meaning: Whatever sins committed across lifetimes are destroyed with each step of circumambulation.

💡 Tips:

  • •Mental circumambulation is valid
28

Śrī Svarṇākarṣaṇa Bhairavaṁ Vande Sarvarakṣākaraṁ Prabhum | Yasya Smaraṇamātreṇa Bhayaṁ Naśyati Tatkṣaṇāt ||

Meaning: I bow to Shri Swarnākarṣaṇa Bhairava, the protector of all, by whose mere remembrance fear is destroyed instantly.

💡 Tips:

  • •Speak from the heart with gratitude
29

Batuk Bhairava Kavach, Borrowed (3rd Recitation) and Kshama Prarthana

⏱️ 3 minutes

Recite the Batuk Bhairava Kavach one final time for closing protection. Then ask forgiveness for any mistakes with the kshama shloka.

Meaning: O Bhairavanatha, accept with grace whatever leaf, flower, fruit, water, and offering I have presented to you in devotion. I do not truly know how to invoke you, nor how to bid you farewell, nor even how to worship you rightly - you alone are my refuge, O Supreme Lord. Countless faults are committed by me day and night; knowing me to be your servant, forgive me, O Supreme Lord. Whatever syllable, word, or meter I have gotten wrong or fallen short in, forgive all of it and be pleased, O Supreme Lord. Forgive me, Lord of lords; forgive me, Lord of the universe - may my devotion at your lotus feet remain unshaken forever.

💡Note:

Third Kavach (2 min) followed by Kshama Prarthana (1 min)

💡 Tips:

  • •The Kavach seals the practice in protection
  • •The Kshama shloka completes with humility
30

Visarjana and Shanti Paath

⏱️ 1 minute

Request Swarnākarṣaṇa Bhairava to return to his abode but remain in your heart. Conclude with the triple peace chant.

Mantra:

Meaning: I request you to return to your abode. May you always reside in my heart. Om, Peace, Peace, Peace.

💡 Tips:

  • •Bow with deep gratitude
  • •Maintain silence after this for as long as comfortable
  • •Carry the devotion forward into your day

🌟Benefits of This Puja

✓Deeper spiritual connection with Swarnākarṣaṇa Bhairava
✓Enhanced protection and obstacle removal through extended practice
✓Development of sustained concentration and inner stillness
✓Purification through Nyasa (body-placement) practice
✓Strengthened devotion through Stotra and extended Japa
✓Preparation for advanced Dashaanga practices
✓Greater stability in daily life and sadhana

⚠️Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • •Increasing japa count too fast without building capacity. Follow the progressive system from guru
  • •Rushing through Stotra recitation. Read slowly with feeling and reflection
  • •Not taking mid-practice Kavach seriously. The second Kavach sustains protection during extended japa
  • •Sitting in wrong asana causing discomfort. Comfort and stability matter
  • •Not giving enough time to silent contemplation and dhyana
  • •Skipping the Nyasa steps. Kara-Nyasa and Anga-Nyasa create a sacred container for the practice
  • •Performing the individual Upachara offerings carelessly. Each offering honors a specific aspect of hospitality
  • •Reciting 108 names more than 3 times. Guru warns this contains cremation-ground (smashanik) elements that require proper foundation
  • •Not offering Panchopacharaa separately for Swarnākarṣaṇa. It cannot be shared with other deities in the same session
  • •Bouncing between different mantras or paths. Stay committed to one path for minimum 2-3 years

💡Additional Notes

  • •Only progress to this level after 20+ days of regular Beginner practice
  • •Ensure mental stability before increasing japa count
  • •If 3 malas feels overwhelming, stay with 2 malas for a few weeks
  • •Quality and consistency matter more than quantity. Boring consistency beats exciting complexity
  • •After 30-40 days at this level, consider Advanced if guru approves
  • •Maintain regularity. Daily practice is essential. Never reduce below your fixed daily count
  • •Saturday morning is especially powerful for Swarnākarṣaṇa Bhairava
  • •Stotra sequence (from guru): After mantra japa, recite 108 Names (1-3 times only), then Ashtakam, then Kavach, then Aparadha Kshamapana (apology stotra, non-negotiable at end of every session)
  • •For young men: Add Durga Mata 108 Names or Ashtakam alongside Swarnākarṣaṇa sadhana. The mother energy grounds and contains the restless prana Swarnākarṣaṇa gives
  • •Clock technique for wandering thoughts (from guru): Visualize a clock. At 10-11-12 focus entirely on deity. Let thoughts come at other positions. Wandering thoughts are NOT failure as long as you surrender them
  • •On every Sankranti (Sun changing Rashi): Chant Swarnākarṣaṇa Ashtottara Shatanamavali 1-3 times, light a lamp, offer bhog in separate plate
  • •Annual pilgrimage: Visit a Bhairava kshetra (Kashi, Ujjain) for minimum 3-4 days, performing the same sadhana you do at home
  • •The Dashaanga system at this level covers: Pujana (with Upachara), Kavach (3x), and Japa (2-3 malas). Advanced level adds Havana, Tarpana, Marjana, and Brahmana Bhojana concepts
  • •Keep a daily log: date, mala count, stotra count, experiences (brief). Review monthly for progress
