The Sutra
"Touching eyeballs as a feather, lightness between them opens into heart and there permeates the cosmos."
Paul Reps translation, Zen Flesh, Zen Bones (1957)
Understanding
A delicate technique of extraordinary subtlety. Gently touch your closed eyelids with the lightest possible touch, as if a feather were brushing them. A sensation of lightness arises between the eyes. This lightness is not merely physical - it opens a channel from the Ajna center directly into the heart, and from the heart it permeates outward into the entire cosmos. The feather-light touch unlocks a cascade from eyes to heart to universe.

How to Practice
Sit quietly with eyes closed. Bring your fingertips to your closed eyelids.
Touch the eyelids with the absolute lightest pressure you can manage - like a feather barely making contact.
Feel the subtle lightness that arises between the eyes - a spacious, floating quality at the Ajna point.
Let this lightness travel downward from between the eyes into the heart center.
As it enters the heart, feel it expanding outward - permeating through the chest, through the body, into the space around you.
Let the lightness continue to expand until it permeates the cosmos. You are the lightness pervading everything.
