VBT Verse 37
The Sutra
"Place your whole attention in the nerve, delicate as the lotus thread, in the center of your spinal column. In such be transformed."
Paul Reps translation, Zen Flesh, Zen Bones (1957)
Understanding
The Sushumna Nadi - the central energy channel running through the core of the spinal column - is described as "delicate as the lotus thread." By placing whole attention on this infinitely subtle channel, the practitioner is transformed. This is the foundation of Kundalini yoga: awareness of the central channel awakens the dormant energy that sleeps at its base.
Original Sanskrit

Vijnanabhairava Verse 37 (Technique 14 of 112)
How to Practice
Sit with your spine perfectly straight. This is essential - the Sushumna runs through the spinal axis.
Close your eyes. Bring awareness to the very center of your spinal column - not the bones, but the subtle channel within.
Imagine this channel as thin and delicate as a lotus fiber - almost invisible, luminous, running from the base of the spine to the crown.
Place your WHOLE attention on this thread. Let everything else fade - body, sounds, thoughts.
Feel this channel as alive - as though light or energy could flow through it at any moment.
Simply hold your attention here with total gentleness. Do not force energy to rise.
The transformation happens naturally. Awareness concentrated on the Sushumna opens it.
Duration
20-30 minutes
Best Time
Early morning - when the spinal energy is fresh
