The Sutra
"Feel yourself as pervading all directions, far, near."
Paul Reps translation, Zen Flesh, Zen Bones (1957)
Understanding
This technique expands the sense of self in all directions simultaneously. You are not located only here. Feel yourself extending to the far and the near at once - north and south, east and west, above and below, distant and close. The physical body is the center, but your presence radiates outward in every direction without limit. In this omnidirectional expansion, the contracted sense of being a point-self dissolves into spacious awareness.

How to Practice
Sit comfortably and feel your body as a center point in space.
Begin expanding your felt sense outward - not just in one direction, but in all directions simultaneously.
Feel yourself extending to the right and to the left. To the front and to the back. Above and below.
Now extend further: feel yourself in the far distance and in the near. In the next room and across continents.
Do not visualize. FEEL. Feel your presence pervading every direction, every distance.
When you are everywhere, the question "where am I?" loses meaning. You are all directions, far and near, simultaneously.
Duration
20-30 minutes
