Verse 1

Sanskrit

नमः श्रीविश्वनाथाय देववन्द्यपदाय ते । काशीशेशावतारो मे देवदेव ह्युपादिश ॥ १ ॥

Transliteration

namaḥ śrīviśvanāthāya devavandyapadāya te | kāśīśeśāvatāro me devadeva hy upādiśa ||

Translation

Salutations to Shri Vishwanath, whose feet are worshipped by gods, cause of all causes; O God of gods, incarnation of the Lord of Kashi, instruct me!

Deep Meaning

Hey Lord of lords, you have taken an incarnation of auspicious form to rule over Kashi. You are the Lord of the universe, whose feet the gods worship. Please instruct me. Salutation to you.

Verse 2

Sanskrit

मायाधीशं महात्मानं सर्वकारणकारणम् । वन्दे तं माधवं देवं यः काशीं चाधितिष्ठति ॥ २ ॥

Transliteration

māyādhīśaṃ mahātmānaṃ sarvakāraṇakāraṇam | vande taṃ mādhavaṃ devaṃ yaḥ kāśīṃ cādhitiṣṭhati ||

Translation

I bow to that Lord Madhava, ruler of Maya, great Self, cause of all causes, who presides over Kashi.

Deep Meaning

I bow to Madhava, the lord of Maya, the great soul, the cause of all causes, the god who dwells in Kashi always as his own seat.

Verse 3

Sanskrit

वन्दे तं धर्मगोप्तारं सर्वगुह्यार्थवेदिनम् । गणदेवं ढुण्ढिराजं तं महान्तं सुविघ्नहम् ॥

Transliteration

vande taṃ dharmagoptāraṃ sarvaguhyārthavedinam | gaṇadevaṃ ḍhuṇḍhirājaṃ taṃ mahāntaṃ suvighnaham ||

Translation

I bow to that protector of dharma, knower of all hidden truths, Lord of ganas Dhundhiraja, the great destroyer of obstacles.

I bow to the protector of dharma, who knows all the secret meanings, the great Dhundhiraja, the god of the Ganas, who destroys great obstacles without effort.

Verse 4

Sanskrit

भारं वोढुं स्वभक्तानां यो योगं प्राप्त उत्तमम् । तं सढुण्ढिं दण्डपाणिं वन्दे गङ्गातटस्थितम् ॥

Transliteration

bhāraṃ voḍhuṃ svabhaktānāṃ yo yogaṃ prāpta uttamam | taṃ saḍhuṇḍhiṃ daṇḍapāṇiṃ vande gaṅgātaṭasthitam ||

Translation

I bow to Dandapani along with Dhundhi, stationed on the Ganga bank, who attained supreme yoga to bear the burden of his devotees.

Deep Meaning

I bow to Dandapani, together with Dhundhiraja, who has attained the supreme yoga to carry the burden of his devotees, who dwells on the bank of the Ganga.

Verse 5

Sanskrit

भैरवं दंष्ट्राकरालं भक्ताभयकरं भजे । दुष्टदण्डशूलशीर्षधरं वामाध्वचारिणम् ॥ ५ ॥

Transliteration

bhairavaṃ daṃṣṭrākarālaṃ bhaktābhayakaraṃ bhaje | duṣṭadaṇḍaśūlaśīrṣadharaṃ vāmādhvacāriṇam ||

Translation

I worship Bhairava, granter of fearlessness to devotees, terrifying with fangs, bearing trident and head for punishing the wicked, follower of the left path.

Deep Meaning

I worship Bhairava, terrible with his fangs, who gives fearlessness to his devotees, who carries the staff and the skull to punish the wicked, and who walks the left path.

Verse 6

Sanskrit

श्रीकाशीं पापशमनीं दमनीं दुष्टचेतसः । स्वर्निःश्रेणिं चाविमुक्तपुरीं मर्त्यहितां भजे ॥

Transliteration

śrīkāśīṃ pāpaśamanīṃ damanīṃ duṣṭacetasaḥ | svarniḥśreṇiṃ cāvimuktapurīṃ martyahitāṃ bhaje ||

Translation

I resort to Shri Kashi, pacifier of sins, subduer of the evil-minded, ladder to heaven, the unabandoned city (Avimukta), beneficial to mortals.

Deep Meaning

I worship the city of Kashi, which destroys sins and restrains wicked minds, which is the staircase to heaven, the city that is never abandoned by Shiva, and which benefits mortals.

Verse 7

Sanskrit

नमामि चतुराराध्यां सदाऽणिम्नि स्थितिं गुहाम् । श्रीगङ्गे भैरवीं दूरीकुरु कल्याणि यातनाम् ॥

Transliteration

namāmi caturārādhyāṃ sadā 'ṇimni sthitiṃ guhām | śrīgaṅge bhairavīṃ dūrīkuru kalyāṇi yātanām ||

Translation

I bow to the cave that abides ever in the power of Anima, worshipped by the learned; O auspicious Ganga, dispel the Bhairavi torment!

Deep Meaning

I bow to the cave that is worshipped by the learned in the four ways and dwells in the Anima power. O auspicious Ganga, please remove my Bhairavi torment.

Verse 8

Sanskrit

भवानि रक्षान्नपूर्णे सद्वर्णितगुणेऽम्बिके । देवर्षिवन्द्याम्बुमणिकर्णिकां मोक्षदां भजे ॥ ८ ॥

Transliteration

rakṣānnapūrṇe sadvarṇitaguṇe 'mbike bhavāni devarṣivandyāmbumaṇikarṇikāṃ mokṣadāṃ bhaje ||

Translation

Protect, O Annapurna, Ambika, Bhavani whose virtues are praised by the good! I resort to Manikarnika with waters worshipped by gods and sages, bestower of liberation.

Deep Meaning

O Bhavani, Annapurna, Ambika, you who are praised for your virtues by good men, protect us. I worship Manikarnika, the water-jewel, worshipped by gods and sages, who gives liberation to all the world.
