Verse 1

Sanskrit

नमामि शम्भुं पुरुषं पुराणं नमामि सर्वज्ञमपारभावम् । नमामि रुद्रं प्रभुमक्षयं तं नमामि शर्वं शिरसा नमामि ॥

Transliteration

namāmi śambhuṃ puruṣaṃ purāṇaṃ namāmi sarvajñam apārabhāvam | namāmi rudraṃ prabhum akṣayaṃ taṃ namāmi śarvaṃ śirasā namāmi ||

Translation

I bow to Shambhu, the ancient Purusha; I bow to the omniscient of boundless nature; I bow to Rudra, the imperishable Lord; I bow to Sharva, with head bowed I bow.

Deep Meaning

Shri Rama said: I bow to Shambhu, the ancient Purusha, who is the all-knowing, whose being has no limit. I bow to Rudra, the eternal Lord, and to Sharva, with my head.

Verse 2

Sanskrit

नमामि देवं परमव्ययं तमुमापतिं लोकगुरुं नमामि । नमामि दारिद्र्यविदारणं तं नमामि रोगापहरं नमामि ॥

Transliteration

namāmi devaṃ paramavyayaṃ tam umāpatiṃ lokaguruṃ namāmi | namāmi dāridryavidāraṇaṃ taṃ namāmi rogāpaharaṃ namāmi ||

Translation

I bow to that supreme imperishable God; I bow to Umapati, Guru of the world; I bow to him who tears away poverty; I bow to him who removes diseases, I bow.

Deep Meaning

I bow to the imperishable supreme deity, to Umapati, the teacher of the world, to the one who removes poverty, and to the one who destroys disease.

Verse 3

Sanskrit

नमामि कल्याणमचिन्त्यरूपं नमामि विश्वोद्भवबीजरूपम् । नमामि विश्वस्थितिकारणं तं नमामि संहारकरं नमामि ॥

Transliteration

namāmi kalyāṇam acintyarūpaṃ namāmi viśvodbhavabījarūpam | namāmi viśvasthitikāraṇaṃ taṃ namāmi saṃhārakaraṃ namāmi ||

Translation

I bow to the auspicious one of incomprehensible form; I bow to the seed of the universe's origin; I bow to the cause of the universe's maintenance; I bow to the destroyer, I bow.

Deep Meaning

I bow to the form of auspiciousness beyond thought, to the seed of the rise of the universe, to the cause of the universe's sustenance, and to the one who brings about its destruction.

Verse 4

Sanskrit

नमामि गौरीप्रियमव्ययं तं नमामि नित्यं क्षरमक्षरं तम् । नमामि चिद्रूपममेयभावं त्रिलोचनं तं शिरसा नमामि ॥

Transliteration

namāmi gaurīpriyam avyayaṃ taṃ namāmi nityaṃ kṣaram akṣaraṃ tam | namāmi cidrūpam ameyabhāvaṃ trilocanaṃ taṃ śirasā namāmi ||

Translation

I bow to the imperishable beloved of Gauri; I bow to him who is ever perishable and imperishable; I bow to him of consciousness-form and immeasurable nature; I bow to the three-eyed Lord with bowed head.

Deep Meaning

I bow to the beloved of Gauri, who is imperishable, and to the eternal one who is both perishable and imperishable. I bow to the form of consciousness, of immeasurable nature, the three-eyed one, with my head.

Verse 5

Sanskrit

नमामि कारुण्यकरं भवस्य भयंकरं वाऽपि सदा नमामि । नमामि दातारमभीप्सितानां नमामि सोमेशमुमेशमादौ ॥

Transliteration

namāmi kāruṇyakaraṃ bhavasya bhayaṃkaraṃ vā 'pi sadā namāmi | namāmi dātāram abhīpsitānāṃ namāmi someśam umeśam ādau ||

Translation

I bow to the compassionate one, or to the terrifier of worldly existence I ever bow; I bow to the giver of desired boons; I bow first to Somesha, Lord of Uma.

Deep Meaning

I always bow to the one who is compassion, terrible to worldly existence, and to Somesha and Umesha, the lord of Uma, who is the giver of what is desired.

Verse 6

Sanskrit

नमामि वेदत्रयलोचनं तं नमामि मूर्तित्रयवर्जितं तम् । नमामि पुण्यं सदसद्व्यतीतं नमामि तं पापहरं नमामि ॥

Transliteration

namāmi vedatrayalocanaṃ taṃ namāmi mūrtitrayavarjitaṃ tam | namāmi puṇyaṃ sadasadvyatītaṃ namāmi taṃ pāpaharaṃ namāmi ||

Translation

I bow to him whose three eyes are the three Vedas; I bow to him free of the three forms; I bow to the holy one beyond being and non-being; I bow to the remover of sins, I bow.

Deep Meaning

I bow to the three-eyed one of the three Vedas, to the one free of the three forms, to the holy one beyond the existent and the non-existent, and to Hara, who destroys sins.

Verse 7

Sanskrit

नमामि विश्वस्य हिते रतं तं नमामि रूपाणि बहूनि धत्ते । यो विश्वगोप्ता सदसत्प्रणेता नमामि तं विश्वपतिं नमामि ॥

Transliteration

namāmi viśvasya hite rataṃ taṃ namāmi rūpāṇi bahūni dhatte | yo viśvagoptā sadasatpraṇetā namāmi taṃ viśvapatiṃ namāmi ||

Translation

I bow to him devoted to the universe's welfare; I bow to him who assumes many forms; who is protector of the universe, creator of being and non-being, I bow to the Lord of the universe, I bow.

Deep Meaning

I bow to the one who loves the welfare of the world and assumes many forms. I bow to the lord of the universe, who protects the world and creates the existent and the non-existent.

Verse 8

Sanskrit

यज्ञेश्वरं सम्प्रति हव्यकव्यं तथागतिं लोकसदाशिवो यः । आराधितो यश्च ददाति सर्वं नमामि दानप्रियमिष्टदेवम् ॥

Transliteration

yajñeśvaraṃ samprati havyakavyaṃ tathāgatiṃ lokasadāśivo yaḥ | ārādhito yaś ca dadāti sarvaṃ namāmi dānapriyam iṣṭadevam ||

Translation

Lord of sacrifices, oblations to gods and ancestors, the ultimate goal, Sadashiva of the world, who when worshipped gives everything, I bow to the chosen deity fond of giving.

Deep Meaning

I bow to the lord of sacrifices, who is the offering and the oblation, to the one who is the goal, the eternal Sadashiva of the world, who gives all when worshipped, and to the beloved deity who loves gifts.

Verse 9

Sanskrit

नमामि सोमेश्वरमस्वतन्त्रमुमापतिं तं विजयं नमामि । नमामि विघ्नेश्वरनन्दिनाथं पुत्रप्रियं तं शिरसा नमामि ॥

Transliteration

namāmi someśvaram asvatantram umāpatiṃ taṃ vijayaṃ namāmi | namāmi vighneśvaranandināthaṃ putrapriyaṃ taṃ śirasā namāmi ||

Translation

I bow to Someshwara who is not independent (bound by love to devotees); I bow to victorious Umapati; I bow to the Lord of Vighneshvara and Nandi; fond of his sons, I bow with head.

Deep Meaning

I bow to Someshvara, the non-independent, the lord of Uma, who is ever victorious. I bow to the lord of Vighneshvara and Nandi, dear to his son, with my head.

Verse 10

Sanskrit

नमामि देवं भवदुःखशोकविनाशनं चन्द्रधरं नमामि । नमामि गङ्गाधरमीशमीड्यमुमाधवं देववरं नमामि ॥

Transliteration

namāmi devaṃ bhavaduḥkhaśokavināśanaṃ candradharaṃ namāmi | namāmi gaṅgādharam īśam īḍyam umādhavaṃ devavaraṃ namāmi ||

Translation

I bow to the God who destroys the sorrow and grief of worldliness; I bow to Chandradhara; I bow to Gangadhara, the praiseworthy Lord; I bow to Umadhava, foremost of gods.

Deep Meaning

I bow to the god who destroys the sorrows and griefs of existence, who bears the moon, to Gangadhara, the praiseworthy lord, Umadhava, and the best of gods.

Verse 11

Sanskrit

नमाम्यजादीशपुरन्दरादिसुरासुरैरर्चितपादपद्मम् । नमामि देवीमुखवादनानामीक्षार्थमक्षित्रितयं य ऐच्छत् ॥

Transliteration

namāmy ajādīśapurandarādisurāsurair arcitapādapadmam | namāmi devīmukhavādanānām īkṣārtham akṣitritayaṃ ya aicchat ||

Translation

I bow to him whose lotus-feet are worshipped by Brahma, Vishnu, Indra, gods and demons; I bow to him who desired three eyes to behold the words from the Goddess's face.

Deep Meaning

I bow to the lord whose feet are worshipped by Brahma and other lords, by Indra and other gods, and by asuras. He wished to look at the words coming from Devi's face, and so he took three eyes.

Verse 12

Sanskrit

पञ्चामृतैर्गन्धसुधूपदीपैर्विचित्रपुष्पैर्विविधैश्च मन्त्रैः । अन्नप्रकारैः सकलोपचारैः सम्पूजितं सोममहं नमामि ॥

Transliteration

pañcāmṛtair gandhasudhūpadīpair vicitrapuṣpair vividhaiś ca mantraiḥ | annaprakāraiḥ sakalopacāraiḥ sampūjitaṃ somam ahaṃ namāmi ||

Translation

With five nectars, sandalwood, good incense, lamps, varied flowers, diverse mantras, kinds of food, and all services, I bow to Soma who is worshipped.

I bow to Soma, who is worshipped with the five nectars, sandal, fine incense, lamps, flowers of many kinds, mantras, and all the sorts of food and offerings.
