Kartikeya's birth, his abhisheka and his killing of Taraka are told in the Rudra Samhita's Kumara Khanda; his retreat to Mount Krouncha leads to the Mallikarjuna jyotirlingam.
Where the Purana tells it
The Kumara Khanda covers his birth, pastimes, abhisheka, the war with Taraka and Taraka's death in chapters 2 to 10. The Koti Rudra Samhita then explains the Mallikarjuna lingam as the place where Shiv and Parvati visit him after he withdraws to Krouncha.
