The best-known Shiv stories, each linked to the chapters that tell them in the Shiva Purana: Sati and Daksha's sacrifice, the Shiv-Parvati wedding, Ganesha and Kartikeya, and the Ganga.
Where the Purana tells it
Sati and Daksha's sacrifice runs through the Sati Khanda, ending in Virabhadra's destruction of the sacrifice. The wedding of Shiv and Parvati fills the second half of the Parvati Khanda. Ganesha and Kartikeya are in the Kumara Khanda. For the Ganga, this Purana tells her descent through the sage Goutama in the Koti Rudra Samhita, which differs from the Bhagiratha version many households know; both are traditions, and this page gives only the one in this text.
