Snaana with Mantra (Sacred Bath)

⏱️ 2 minutes

ह्रींश्रींह्रींॐ जप

Take a bath with cold water before puja. Recite the purification mantra while bathing. This purifies both the physical and subtle body. After bathing, wear clean clothes and proceed to the puja space.

Mantra:

ॐ अपवित्रः पवित्रो वा सर्वावस्थां गतो’पि वा। यः स्मरेत् पुण्डरीकाक्षं स बाह्याभ्यन्तरः शुचिः॥

Om Apavitrah Pavitro Va Sarvavasthaṁ Gato'pi Va | Yaḥ Smaret Puṇḍarikakṣaṁ Sa Bahyabhyantaraḥ Śuciḥ ||

Meaning: Whether pure or impure, in whatever condition, whoever remembers the lotus-eyed Lord becomes pure inside and out.

💡 Tips:

  • Cold water bath is traditional for advanced practice
  • Recite the mantra at least 3 times while bathing
2

Bhuta-Shuddhi (Elemental Purification Concept)

⏱️ 2 minutes

Sit on your asana. Before beginning worship, mentally acknowledge the five elements (earth, water, fire, air, space) within your body. Visualize each element being purified by the light of Bhairava. This is the conceptual introduction to Bhuta-shuddhi at Pashu-bhava level. Full Bhuta-shuddhi with mantras requires diksha (initiation).

💡Note:

Full Bhuta-shuddhi with bija mantras is part of Veera-bhava practice and requires formal initiation from a qualified guru. This conceptual version is safe for Pashu-bhava practitioners.

⚠️Important Warning:

Do NOT attempt full Bhuta-shuddhi with bija mantras without diksha. The conceptual visualization described here is the safe version.

💡 Tips:

  • Visualize earth at the base, water at the abdomen, fire at the navel, air at the heart, space at the throat
  • See each element glowing with golden-red purifying light
  • This is a meditation, not a mantra practice at this level
3

Achamana (Purification Sips)

⏱️ 1 minute

Three sips of water for purification. At advanced level, perform with deep mindfulness and awareness of the purifying effect on body, speech, and mind.

Mantra:

ॐ केशवाय नमः। ॐ नारायणाय नमः। ॐ माधवाय नमः। ॐ गोविन्दाय नमः इति हस्तं प्रक्षाल्य।

Om Keśavaya Namaḥ | Om Narayanaya Namaḥ | Om Madhavaya Namaḥ | Om Govindaya Namaḥ iti hastam prakshalya

Meaning: Purification through the three names: Keshava, Narayana, Madhava. Then wash both hands saying Salutations to Govinda.

4

Matrika-Nyasa (Alphabet Placement Concept)

⏱️ 1 minute

पूजा

Matrika-Nyasa involves placing the Sanskrit alphabet (matrika letters) on the body, treating each letter as a form of Shakti. At this level, acknowledge the concept by mentally reciting "Om" while touching the crown of the head, heart, and navel. The full 50-letter Matrika-Nyasa requires initiation.

💡Note:

Full Matrika-Nyasa with all 50 Sanskrit letters placed on the body is a Veera-bhava practice requiring diksha. This simplified acknowledgment introduces the concept safely.

💡 Tips:

  • Touch crown, heart, and navel while chanting Om three times
  • Visualize the Sanskrit alphabet as luminous golden letters pervading your body
  • This prepares the subtle body for the detailed Kara and Anga Nyasa that follow
5

Batuk Kavach (First 3 of 7 Recitations)

⏱️ 6 minutes

पूजा

Recite the Batuk Bhairav Kavach three times at the start of the mantra section. At advanced level, the Kavach is chanted seven times total IF you are psychologically stable: three here, two mid-japa, and two before visarjana.

⚠️Important Warning:

ONLY do 7 total Kavach recitations if you are mentally balanced and stable. If any psychological instability exists, do 3 total (1+1+1) as in intermediate level.

💡 Tips:

  • Three consecutive recitations build a strong protective field
  • Feel the protection intensify with each recitation
24

Extended Archana (108-Name Instruction)

⏱️ 10-15 minutes

पूजा

If you have the Batuk Bhairava Ashtottara Shatanamavali (108 names), recite it while offering a flower petal or akshata grain with each name. If the full 108-name text is not available, repeat the 16-name archana from intermediate level seven times (112 offerings total). Each name invokes a specific quality of Batuk Bhairava.

💡Note:

The Ashtottara Shatanamavali (108 names) should be obtained from a reliable published source. Do not use random internet compilations.

💡 Tips:

  • One flower petal or akshata grain per name
  • Maintain steady rhythm
  • Feel each name as an invocation of a divine quality
  • The 108 names cover the complete range of Batuk Bhairava's attributes
25

Extended Japa (3+ Malas)

⏱️ 25-40 minutes

ह्रींश्रींह्रींॐ जप

Begin the extended mantra japa. Chant the Batuk Bhairava nama mantra for minimum three malas (324 repetitions). Allow the count to increase naturally without strain. Let the mantra become effortless.

Mantra:

ॐ श्री बटुक भैरवाय नमः

Om Śri Baṭukaya Bhairavaya Namaḥ

Meaning: Salutations to Shri Batuk Bhairava

⚠️Important Warning:

Rudrayamala cautions: practice for self-purification, not for powers. Maintain humility throughout.

💡 Tips:

  • Let the mantra flow naturally without forcing
  • Mind may go silent between mantras, allow this
  • Do not force high count, quality of absorption matters
  • If mantra continues naturally beyond 3 malas, let it
  • Never display counts or compete, keep practice private
26

Mid-Japa Kavach (4th and 5th of 7)

⏱️ 4 minutes

ह्रींश्रींह्रींॐ जप

After completing approximately half of your japa (e.g. after 2 malas), pause and recite the Kavach twice. This maintains and strengthens the protective field during extended practice.

💡Note:

Resume japa after these two Kavach recitations.

27

Continue Japa (Remaining Malas)

⏱️ 10-15 minutes

ह्रींश्रींह्रींॐ जप

Continue with the remaining malas of japa. Allow the practice to deepen. The mantra may begin to chant itself at this point.

💡 Tips:

  • This is where deep absorption often occurs
  • Let the mantra lead you, do not lead the mantra
  • Maintain steady breathing
28

Batuk Stotra and Ashtakam

⏱️ 7-10 minutes

पूजा

After completing japa, recite the Batuk Bhairav Stotra followed by the Ashtakam. Read slowly and contemplatively, absorbing the meaning of each verse.

💡 Tips:

  • Read Stotra first, then Ashtakam
  • Contemplate each verse deeply
  • Feel the qualities of Batuk being invoked through the words
  • Can read from text while still learning
29

Batuk Kavach (Final 2, 6th and 7th of 7)

⏱️ 4 minutes

पूजा

Complete the seven Kavach recitations with the final two. This seals the entire practice in maximum protection.

⚠️Important Warning:

Only if total 7 was the plan. If you did 3 total, this is your final (3rd) single Kavach.

30

Havana Concept (Fire Ceremony Reference)

⏱️ 2 minutes

पूजा

The sixth limb of Dashaanga is Havana (fire ceremony). At home practice without a fire pit, acknowledge this limb by lighting a small piece of camphor as symbolic fire offering. Offer a pinch of akshata (rice) into the camphor flame while chanting the mantra. The traditional rule: Havana ahutis (offerings) should equal one-tenth of your japa count.

Mantra:

ॐ श्री बटुक भैरवाय स्वाहा।

Om Śri Baṭuka Bhairavaya Svaha

Meaning: This offering is dedicated to Shri Batuk Bhairava through the sacred fire.

💡Note:

Full Havana (homa/havan) requires a proper fire pit (havan kund), specific samagri, and trained guidance. This symbolic version with camphor introduces the concept. For formal Havana, seek guru instruction.

💡 Tips:

  • Light camphor on a metal plate
  • Offer a few grains of rice into the flame
  • One-tenth rule: if you did 324 japa, the symbolic havana intention covers 32-33 ahutis
31

Tarpana Concept (Libation Reference)

⏱️ 1 minute

पूजा

The eighth limb of Dashaanga is Tarpana (water libation). Pour a small stream of water from the right hand while reciting the mantra. Traditional rule: Tarpana count equals one-tenth of Havana count.

Mantra:

ॐ श्री बटुक भैरवं तर्पयामि।

Om Śri Baṭuka Bhairavaṁ Tarpayami

Meaning: I offer this water libation to satisfy Shri Batuk Bhairava.

💡Note:

Full Tarpana is a specific ritual for satisfying deities and ancestors through water offerings. This simplified version introduces the concept.

💡 Tips:

  • Pour water slowly from the right palm
  • Feel the offering satisfying and pleasing the deity
32

Marjana Concept (Purification Sprinkling)

⏱️ 1 minute

The ninth limb of Dashaanga is Marjana (purification through sprinkling). Dip your fingertips in water and sprinkle it over yourself and the puja space while chanting. Traditional rule: Marjana count equals one-tenth of Tarpana.

Mantra:

ॐ श्री बटुक भैरवाय नमः। मार्जनं समर्पयामि।

Om Śri Baṭuka Bhairavaya Namaḥ | Marjanaṁ Samarpayami

Meaning: I offer this purification sprinkling to Shri Batuk Bhairava.

💡 Tips:

  • Sprinkle water lightly over your head, shoulders, and the puja space
  • This purifies the environment and the practitioner
33

Brahmana Bhojana (Feeding People, Guidance)

⏱️ 1 minute (planning commitment)

पूजा

The tenth and final limb of Dashaanga is Brahmana Bhojana (feeding people). This CANNOT be skipped or replaced. After puja, you must feed someone: children, elderly, spiritual practitioners, or anyone in need. Even feeding one person with love fulfills this limb. Plan this before you begin the puja.

💡Note:

In the traditional framework: after japa comes Havana (1/10th of japa), then Tarpana (1/10th of Havana), then Marjana (1/10th of Tarpana), then Brahmana Bhojana (feeding people). The feeding step is non-negotiable.

⚠️Important Warning:

This step cannot be skipped. The Dashaanga is incomplete without Brahmana Bhojana. Feeding people completes the cycle of worship.

💡 Tips:

  • Plan whom you will feed before starting puja
  • Feed children, elderly, spiritual students, or anyone in need
  • Even feeding stray dogs (Bhairava's vahana) with love fulfills this
  • Donate to a Ved Pathshala or anna-kshetra if direct feeding is not possible
  • The food should be prepared with love and offered with respect
34

Deep Dhyana (Extended Meditation)

⏱️ 15-20 minutes

ध्यान

Sit in complete silence and stillness for 15-20 minutes. No mantra, no visualization, just pure awareness. After the intensity of extended japa and the Dashaanga offerings, the mind naturally settles into profound silence. Rest in the presence of Batuk Bhairava in the heart.

💡 Tips:

  • This is the most important part of advanced practice
  • Do not "do" anything. Just be
  • The mind naturally becomes quiet after prolonged japa
  • Rest in devotion and peace
  • Let Batuk Bhairava's grace work within you
  • If thoughts arise, let them pass without engagement
35

Maha-Aarti with Kapoor (Grand Camphor Offering)

⏱️ 2 minutes

आरती

Light a fresh piece of camphor on the aarti plate. Wave it before Batuk Bhairava in grand clockwise circles while chanting the aarti mantra. Ring bell vigorously. This is the climactic offering of the puja.

Mantra:

ॐ कर्पूरगौरं करुणावतारं संसारसारं भुजगेन्द्रहारम्। सदा वसन्तं हृदयारविन्दे भवं भवानीसहितं नमामि॥

Om Karpuragauraṁ Karuṇavataraṁ Saṁsarasaraṁ Bhujagendraharam | Sada Vasantaṁ Hṛdayaravinde Bhavaṁ Bhavanisahitaṁ Namami ||

Meaning: I bow to the one white as camphor, incarnation of compassion, essence of existence, who wears the serpent king as garland, who always dwells in the lotus of the heart, along with Bhavani.

💡 Tips:

  • Use a generous piece of camphor
  • Wave with grand, sweeping clockwise circles
  • After the flame dies, pass hands over it and touch eyes and head
  • The camphor burning completely represents complete ego dissolution
36

Pradakshina (3-7 Circumambulations)

⏱️ 2 minutes

पूजा

Walk clockwise around the puja space 3 to 7 times. At advanced level, more circumambulations deepen the merit. Recite the pradakshina mantra with each round.

Mantra:

यानि कानि च पापानि जन्मान्तरकृतानि च। तानि तानि विनश्यन्ति प्रदक्षिणपदे पदे॥

Yani Kani Ca Papani Janmantarakṛtani Ca | Tani Tani Vinaśyanti Pradakṣiṇapade Pade ||

Meaning: Whatever sins committed across lifetimes are destroyed with each step.

37

Aparadha Kshamapana (Full Apology Stotra)

⏱️ 2 minutes

पूजा

Recite the complete three-verse apology stotra with deep humility. This acknowledges human limitations in performing divine worship and asks for the deity's gracious acceptance.

Mantra:

Avahanaṁ Na Janami Na Janami Visarjanam | Pujaṁ Caiva Na Janami Kṣamyataṁ Parameśvara || Mantrahinaṁ Kriyahinaṁ Bhaktihinaṁ Sureśvara | Yat Pujitaṁ Maya Deva Paripurnaṁ Tad Astu Me || Aparadhasahasraṇi Kriyante'harniśaṁ Maya | Daso'yamiti Maṁ Matva Kṣamasva Parameśvara ||

Meaning: I do not know proper invocation nor proper conclusion. I do not truly know how to worship. Forgive me, O Supreme Lord. Though my mantras were lacking, my actions incomplete, and my devotion imperfect, O Lord of gods, may whatever worship I offered be considered complete. Thousands of offenses are committed by me day and night. Considering me your servant, forgive me, O Supreme Lord.

💡Note:

This three-verse Aparadha Kshamapana is non-negotiable at the end of every advanced session. Guru emphasizes this is the most important closing prayer.

💡 Tips:

  • Recite with genuine humility, not as mere ritual
  • Feel the sincerity of asking forgiveness
  • This shloka covers all possible errors in the entire puja

Visarjana, Extended Shanti, and Post-Puja Protocol

⏱️ 7 minutes

पूजा

Request Batuk Bhairava to return to his abode but remain in your heart forever. Chant the triple Shanti. Then sit in absolute silence for 5 more minutes. After rising, maintain silence. Feed stray dogs while mentally invoking Bhairava. Return home silently. Only then distribute prasad.

Mantra:

ॐ श्री बटुक भैरवाय नमः। यथास्थानं प्रवेशयामि। हृदये सदा तिष्ठतु॥ ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः॥

Om Śri Baṭuka Bhairavaya Namaḥ | Yathasthanam Praveśayami | Hṛdaye Sada Tiṣṭhatu || Om Śantiḥ Śantiḥ Śantiḥ ||

Meaning: I request you to return to your abode. May you always reside in my heart. Om, Peace, Peace, Peace.

💡Note:

Post-puja protocol (from guru): Silence after worship. Feed stray dogs while invoking Bhairava. Return silently. Distribute prasad to family. Then resume normal activities.

💡 Tips:

  • Bow with the deepest gratitude of the entire practice
  • Sit in absolute silence for 5 full minutes after Shanti
  • The silence after puja is sacred, do not break it casually
  • Feed dogs while mentally chanting the nama mantra
  • Only speak after distributing prasad to family

⚠️Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Attempting advanced level without sufficient preparation. Minimum 40 days of Intermediate practice required
  • Doing 7 Kavach recitations when mentally unstable. This can be destabilizing. Reduce to 3 if any doubt
  • Rushing through extended japa instead of letting it become effortless
  • Skipping deep dhyana at the end. The silence is where the deepest work happens
  • Seeking siddhis (powers) instead of devotion and purification
  • Practicing irregularly. Consistency is more important than intensity
  • Sharing practice details, counts, or experiences with others. Keep everything sacred and private
  • Having vicious or destructive thoughts during sadhana. Guru warns that bhutas respond to negative mental states
  • Keeping a vigraha (idol) without ability to maintain temple-level standards. If the deity enters the idol, daily abhishekam becomes mandatory
  • Not following an upadesha after receiving it. Consequences include losing eligibility for sadhana in this life
  • Skipping Brahmana Bhojana (feeding people). The Dashaanga is incomplete without this final limb
  • Attempting Bhuta-shuddhi or Matrika-Nyasa with bija mantras without diksha. The conceptual versions in this vidhi are the safe limit without initiation

💡Additional Notes

  • WARNING: Only attempt this level if you have practiced Intermediate for 40+ days with stable mind
  • WARNING: Mental stability is MANDATORY. If any psychological issues arise, return to lower levels immediately
  • WARNING: Do NOT seek siddhis, powers, or supernatural experiences. Purpose is purification and devotion
  • WARNING: Keep practice completely private. Do not discuss counts or experiences publicly or online
  • WARNING (from guru): When starting intense Bhairava sadhana, bhutas and pretas may surround you seeking moksha through your energy. This can cause unexplained tiredness and depression. This is spirit interference, NOT karmic burning. Batuk Kavach (7x) is the fastest protection
  • WARNING (from guru): If depression occurs during sadhana, strengthen Batuk Kavach recitation immediately and maintain emotional stability. Consult guru if symptoms persist
  • Rudrayamala emphasizes: use sadhana for inner purification, not ego or power
  • This level should ideally be guided by a guru. Self-practice is possible but guru oversight is strongly recommended
  • If practice becomes mechanical or egoic, reduce to Intermediate until sincerity returns
  • Purpose is bhakti (devotion) and self-purification, nothing else
  • Batuk Bhairava is ultimately a form of Param Shiva. Approach with the deepest reverence
  • After puja, spend the day in sattvic activities. Avoid tamasic influences (heavy food, negative media, conflict)
  • Batuk is Kalabhairava BEFORE his 12-year tapasya. "Batuk" means restless/moving Bhairava. He gives unbridled prana. Young practitioners will feel surging vitality
  • Photos preferred over idols. Only keep a vigraha if you can maintain temple-level standards (abhishekam twice daily, daily naivedya and diya)
  • After 1000 malas of nama mantra, you become eligible to shift to Batuka moola mantra (Apaduddharaka). Continue nama mantra in reduced count. Never stop it completely
  • Keep mala separately after japa. Do not wear it initially. Over 2-3 years the mantra shakti stores in the mala
  • Sankalpa completion protocol (from guru): After fixed japa count, perform Homa (1/10th of japa as ahutis), then Tarpan (1/10th of homa), then Marjan (1/10th of tarpan), then Bhojanam (feeding children/brahmins, this step cannot be skipped)
  • The Dashaanga system from Vatuka Bhairava Saparya: (1) Pujana, (2) Kavach, (3) Sahasranama, (4) Patala, (5) Paddhati-Paath, (6) Japa, (7) Havana, (8) Tarpana, (9) Marjana, (10) Brahmana Bhojana. Limbs 3 (Sahasranama) and 4 (Patala) require diksha and are NOT included here. Seek a qualified guru for these practices
