श्रीमार्तण्डभैरवस्तोत्रम्

Verse 1

Sanskrit

भैरवा ऊचुः - नमो मार्ताण्डनाथाय स्थाणवे परमात्मने । भैरवाय सुभीमाय त्रिधाम्नेश नमो नमः ॥ १॥ मृतोद्धारणदक्षाय गर्भोद्धरणहेतवे । तेजसां केतवे तुभ्यं हेतवे जगतामपि ॥ २॥

Transliteration

bhairavā ūcuḥ - namō mārtāṇḍanāthāya sthāṇavē paramātmanē | bhairavāya subhīmāya tridhāmnēśa namō namaḥ || 1 || mṛtōddhāraṇadakṣāya garbhōddharaṇahētavē | tējasāṁ kētavē tubhyaṁ hētavē jagatāmapi || 2 ||

Translation

The Bhairavas said: Salutations to Martanda Natha, the immovable pillar, the Supreme Self. To Bhairava, the greatly fearsome, lord of the three abodes, salutations! To the one skilled in raising the dead, the cause of delivering from the womb, the banner of radiance, and the cause of the worlds.

Verse 2

Sanskrit

हिरण्यगर्भरूपाय धीप्रणोदाय ते नमः । ओङ्कारव्याहृतिस्थाय महावीराय ते नमः ॥ ३॥ वीरेशाय नमस्तुभ्यं क्षेत्रेशाय नमो नमः । वेदार्थाय च वेदाय वेदगर्भाय शम्भवे ॥ ४॥

Transliteration

hiraṇyagarbharūpāya dhīpraṇōdāya tē namaḥ | ōṅkāravyāhṛtisthāya mahāvīrāya tē namaḥ || 3 || vīrēśāya namastubhyaṁ kṣētrēśāya namō namaḥ | vēdārthāya ca vēdāya vēdagarbhāya śambhavē || 4 ||

Translation

Salutations to the golden-womb form, the impeller of intellect. To the one established in Omkara and Vyahritis, to the great hero. To the lord of heroes, to the lord of sacred fields. To the meaning of the Vedas, to the Veda itself, to the womb of the Vedas, to Shambhu.

Verse 3

Sanskrit

विश्वामित्राय सूर्याय सूरये परमात्मने । महाभैरवरूपाय भैरवानन्ददायिने ॥ ५॥ द्विविधध्वान्तध्वंसाय महामोहविनाशिने । मायान्धकारनाशाय चक्षुस्तिमिरभञ्जिने ॥ ६॥

Transliteration

viśvāmitrāya sūryāya sūrayē paramātmanē | mahābhairavarūpāya bhairavānandadāyinē || 5 || dvividhadhvāntadhvaṁsāya mahāmōhavināśinē | māyāndhakāranāśāya cakṣustimirabhaṇjinē || 6 ||

Translation

To the friend of the universe, to the Sun, to the hero, to the Supreme Self. To the form of Maha Bhairava, the giver of bliss to the Bhairavas. To the destroyer of two-fold darkness (physical and spiritual), the annihilator of great delusion. To the destroyer of the darkness of Maya, the breaker of blindness of the eyes.

Verse 4

Sanskrit

मन्त्राय मन्त्ररूपाय मन्त्राक्षरविचारिणे । मन्त्रवाच्याय देवाय महामन्त्रार्थदायिने ॥ ७॥ यन्त्राय यन्त्ररूपाय यन्त्रस्थाय यमाय ते । यन्त्रैर्नियन्त्रैर्नियमैर्यमिनां फलदाय च ॥ ८॥

Transliteration

mantrāya mantrarūpāya mantrākṣaravicāriṇē | mantravācyāya dēvāya mahāmantrārthadāyinē || 7 || yantrāya yantrarūpāya yantrasthāya yamāya tē | yantrairniyantrayairniyamairyamināṁ phaladāya ca || 8 ||

Translation

To the Mantra, to the form of Mantra, to the investigator of mantra-syllables. To the one expressed by mantras, to the deity who grants the meaning of the great mantra. To the Yantra, to the form of Yantra, to the one situated in Yantras, to Yama. To the one who, through yantras, restraints, and disciplines, grants fruits to the self-disciplined.

Verse 5

Sanskrit

अज्ञानतिमिरध्वंसकारिणे क्लेशहारिणे । महापातकहर्त्रे च महाभयविनाशिने ॥ ९॥ भयदाय सुशीलाय भयानकरवाय ते । बीभत्साय च रौद्राय भीताभयप्रदायिने ॥ १०॥

Transliteration

ajñānatimiiradhvaṁsakāriṇē klēśahāriṇē | mahāpātakhartrē ca mahābhayavināśinē || 9 || bhayadāya suśīlāya bhayānakaravāya tē | bībhatsāya ca raudrāya bhītābhayapradāyinē || 10 ||

Translation

To the destroyer of the darkness of ignorance, the remover of afflictions. To the taker of great sins, the annihilator of great fear. To the giver of fear (to the wicked), the one of good character, the one of terrifying sound. To the horrifying, to the fierce, to the one who grants fearlessness to the frightened.

Verse 6

Sanskrit

तेजस्वितेजोरूपाय चण्डायोग्राय ते नमः । बीजाय बीजरूपाय बीजभर्गाय ते नमः ॥ ११॥ क्रोधभर्गाय देवाय लोभभर्गाय ते नमः । महाभर्गाय वै तुभ्यं ज्ञानभर्गाय ते नमः ॥ १२॥

Transliteration

tējasvitējōrūpāya caṇḍāyōgrāya tē namaḥ | bījāya bījarūpāya bījabhargāya tē namaḥ || 11 || krōdhabhargāya dēvāya lōbhabhargāya tē namaḥ | mahābhargāya vai tubhyaṁ jñānabhargāya tē namaḥ || 12 ||

Translation

To the form of radiant brilliance, to the fierce and terrible, salutations. To the Seed, the seed-form, the destroyer of seeds (of karma). To the destroyer of anger, to the destroyer of greed. To the great Bharga (destroyer/purifier) itself, to the Bharga of knowledge.

Verse 7

Sanskrit

घोरभर्गाय ते तुभ्यं भीतिभर्गाय ते नमः । सुशोकाय विशोकाय ज्ञानभर्गाय ते नमः ॥ १३॥ तत्त्वभर्गाय देवाय मनोभर्गाय वै नमः । दारिद्र्यदुःखभर्गय कामभर्गाय ते नमः ॥ १४॥

Transliteration

ghōrabhargāya tē tubhyaṁ bhītibhargāya tē namaḥ | suśōkāya viśōkāya jñānabhargāya tē namaḥ || 13 || tattvabhargāya dēvāya manōbhargāya vai namaḥ | dāridryduḥkhabhargāya kāmabhargāya tē namaḥ || 14 ||

Translation

To the Bharga of terror, to the Bharga of fear, salutations. To the one who knows sorrow, to the one beyond sorrow, to the Bharga of knowledge. To the Bharga of tattvas (principles), to the Bharga of the mind. To the Bharga of poverty and suffering, to the Bharga of desire.

Verse 8

Sanskrit

हिंसाभर्गाय तामिस्रभर्गाय जगदात्मने । अतिदुर्वासनाभर्ग नमस्ते भैरवात्मने ॥ १५॥ ध्यायन्ते यं भर्ग इति भर्गभर्गाय ते नमः । रोगभर्गाय देवाय पापभर्गाय ते नमः ॥ १६॥

Transliteration

hiṁsābhargāya tāmisrabhargāya jagadātmanē | atiduvāsanābharga namastē bhairavātmanē || 15 || dhyāyantē yaṁ bharga iti bhargabhargāya tē namaḥ | rōgabhargāya dēvāya pāpabhargāya tē namaḥ || 16 ||

Translation

To the Bharga of violence, to the Bharga of darkness, to the Soul of the universe. To the Bharga of deep negative tendencies, salutations to the Bhairava-Self. To the one whom yogis meditate upon as "Bharga", to the Bharga of Bharga itself. To the Bharga of disease, to the Bharga of sin.

Verse 9

Sanskrit

महापातकभर्गाय ह्युपपातकभर्गिणे । महानिरयभर्गाय नृत्तभर्गाय ते नमः ॥ १७॥ क्लेशभर्गाय देवाय भौतिकघ्नाय ते नमः । मृत्युभर्गाय देवाय दुर्गभर्गाय ते नमः ॥ १८॥

Transliteration

mahāpātakabhargāya hyupapātakabhargiṇē | mahānirayabhargāya nṛttabhargāya tē namaḥ || 17 || klēśabhargāya dēvāya bhautikaghnāya tē namaḥ | mṛtyubhargāya dēvāya durgabhargāya tē namaḥ || 18 ||

Translation

To the Bharga of great sins and sub-sins. To the Bharga of the great hell, to the Bharga of dance (cosmic dissolution). To the Bharga of afflictions, the destroyer of elemental suffering. To the Bharga of death, to the Bharga of difficulty.

Verse 10

Sanskrit

ध्यायन्ते यं भर्ग इति भर्गभर्गाय ते नमः । रोगभर्गाय देवाय पापभर्गाय ते नमः ॥ १९॥ वीरवीरेश देवेश नमस्तेऽस्तु त्रिधामक । महामार्ताण्ड वरद सर्वाभयवरप्रद ॥ २०॥

Transliteration

dhyāyantē yaṁ bharga iti bhargabhargāya tē namaḥ | rōgabhargāya dēvāya pāpabhargāya tē namaḥ || 19 || vīravīrēśa dēvēśa namastē'stu tridhāmaka | mahāmārtāṇḍa varada sarvābhayavaraprada || 20 ||

Translation

To the one meditated upon as "Bharga", to the Bharga of Bharga, to the Bharga of disease and sin. O hero of heroes, lord of gods, salutations to the three-aboded one. O great Martanda, boon-giver, bestower of the boon of fearlessness to all.

Verse 11

Sanskrit

नमो वीराधिवीरेश सूर्यचन्द्रातिधामक । अग्निधामातिधाम्ने च महामार्ताण्ड ते नमः ॥ २१॥ वीरातिवीर वीरेश घोरघोरार्तिघोरक । महामार्ताण्डदेवेश भूयो भूयो नमो नमः ॥ २२॥

Transliteration

namō vīrādhivīrēśa sūryacandrātidhāmaka | agnidhāmātidhāmnē ca mahāmārtāṇḍa tē namaḥ || 21 || vīrātivīra vīrēśa ghōraghōrārtighōraka | mahāmārtāṇḍadēvēśa bhūyō bhūyō namō namaḥ || 22 ||

Translation

Salutations, O lord of heroes beyond heroes, whose radiance surpasses the sun and moon. To the one whose abode surpasses fire itself, O great Martanda, salutations. O hero beyond heroes, lord of heroes, terrifying terror of terrifying sufferings. O lord of the great Martanda Devas, again and again, salutations, salutations!
