Detailed Understanding
Pitāmaha means "grandfather" or "great ancestor" (pitā = father. maha = great). This title usually refers to Brahma the creator, but as Bhairava it points to something even more primordial, the consciousness that witnesses even the creator. Pitāmaha Bhairava is the teaching that before the universe, before the gods, before creation itself, awareness already was. He is the ancient wisdom that remembers what existed before existence, the primordial teaching from before time began.
