Nīlakaṇṭha means "blue-throated," referencing the sacred episode where Shiva consumed the halahala poison during the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthan) to save all creation. The poison turned His throat blue but went no further, held by His divine will. As Bhairava, this form represents the spiritual warrior who willingly takes on suffering, negativity, and poison, both literal and metaphorical, to protect others.
